Classes
Distinction Dance Academy welcomes all children ages 3 and up to join our classes. All students must be enrolled in Ballet, and may choose to enroll in the other genres we have to offer.
ENTRANCE CLASS
For children aged 3-4, this class focuses on moving to music, having fun and learning the very basics of technique.
NZAMD ROSETTE PRE GRADES
PRE GRADE ONE-TWO
ROSETTE
For children aged 4-6. Students will learn a very fun and simple syllabus for each of these grades, with the option of sitting teacher guided exams.
PRE GRADE THREE
ROSETTE
For children aged 6-7. Students will learn a syllabus of a slightly higher level than the previous Rosette pre grades, focusing on musicality and early stages of technique, with the option of sitting their first non-teacher guided exam.
NZAMD BALLET
Ballet is an important base for most dance disciplines, and the NZAMD Ballet syllabus is designed to allow students to progress without pressure, the length of the lower grades making it attractive for the once a week student, as well as being progressively challenging for the more committed student.
GRADE ONE-SIX
For children aged 8-13. These grades are designed to be as pressure free as possible, while also offering a progressive challenge for more committed students. Technique, discipline, musicality and performance ability are among the many skills that are taught throughout these grades, along with optional examinations.
GRADE SEVEN-NINE
For students aged 14+. These grades run along side the Major Grades - 7/Elementary, 8/Intermediate, 9/Advanced.
The Major Grades syllabus is the same as it's partner Grade, with the difference being Pointe work. Major Grades are optional.
LYRICAL
Junior, Intermediate, Senior
For students aged 7-18. These classes are designed to teach students how to interpret music, then relay the story/emotion back using their face and body. Lyrical is a mixture of Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary.
STRETCH & STRENGTH
Junior, Intermediate, Senior
For students aged 5-18. These classes are designed for students to both learn new stretches and strengthening exercises, as well as spend time doing them with guidance and correction. These classes are important for young dancers to develop their muscles and flexibility, as well as older dancers for maintaining their skills.
